When you connect a domain name to a website, there is a right way to do it, and a wrong way.
- The right way is to use "C-Name" and "A Records". These are called DNS records.
- The wrong way is to use Forwarding (also called Redirecting).
Currently, you are only able to use the wrong way (Forwarding) with your KW Agent Sites. I believe that this feature is coming in the future, but I do not know when.
If you're confused, what this means for you:
- When you share your site, your links will not have your custom domain name in them. Instead it will have your sub-domain (ie Rick.KW.com instead of CincinnatiSmartHomes.com). This also affects SEO. Agents who use SEO heavily will want to wait to switch to the New KW Agent Sites. Click here if you want to extend your old Placester site.
- MOST IMPORTANTLY! If you purchased your domain name through GoDaddy (and possibly some other vendors), people will not able to access your site reliably, and will often see a security warning instead (see the image below). The only domain name company that I can say works for sure is Google Domains (this doesn't mean other registrars won't work, I just can't test them). If you have purchased your domain name through Google Domains, you will not experience this issue. Click here if you want to extend your old Placester site.
